Focus and Improve Your Brain Function Naturally

September brings new beginnings and responsibilities, and for some, this is a painful transition after being in a hardcore chill summer zone for 3 months! 
It can be super hard to focus with the heat still lingering, BUT! i have some good old herbal goodies for all of your focus problems.

First of all, thank your liver for surviving all the cocktails, fast food and ice creams you have eaten and surprise it with some real quality food such as fish, vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower and season them with turmeric, rosemary and sage. These examples are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and it is brain food!

Sage: Prevents Alzheimer's disease and improves cognitive and neurological function. Add it to roast chicken or vegetables, turkey, tomato sauce or soups. You can also drink it as a tea, but be careful, it can rise blood pressure. As a tea, I recommend mixing some other herbs with sage such as lavender, rosemary and chamomile (whichever ones you prefer) for a nicer taste.



Turmeric: Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, boosts brain health and can also prevent Alzheimer's disease. Turmeric is a key ingredient in curry dishes, and you can also add it to stir-fries, soups and vegetable dishes. Always remember to add a couple dashes of black pepper to enhance the absorption of turmeric.



Rosemary: Rosemary energizes and helps you concentrate. It boosts the brain and helps your memory. Take it as a tea, with other herbs such as sage, lavender, chamomile, lemon balm or lemon verbena, or thyme. You can also add a few drops into your bath or add a few drops in your candle burner, filling your room with the aroma of rosemary.


Practice getting enough sleep, exercising, lower your stress levels, and take some time for yourself everyday even if it is just for one hour. I recommend having a cup of lemon balm tea every evening, this will help with stress, anxiety and insomnia. It also improves cognitive function.



There are many more ways to improve your focus and brain function. Try taking a few drops of herbal extracts/tinctures every day with some water:

  • Turmeric: Its properties are mentioned above. If you drink turmeric extract, it has a much stronger and faster effect.
  • Ginkgo Biloba: Stimulates circulation and promotes blood flow to the brain. It is used as a treatment for dementia and prevents Alzheimer's disease.
  • Gotu Kola: Improves mental clarity, energizes and relieves stress. It can also prevent hair loss and promote faster hair growth.

While you are busy, drink hot or iced Concentration Tea! With rosemary, basil, lemon balm, gotu kola, peppermint and sage.

Very interesting. I use a lot of turmeric. Adding it to lentil dishes for a bit of zing. I’ve also recently had it suggested to add to coffee.
