After four long years, the wait was finally over—Cyherbia’s Fairy Festival 2023 made a powerful comeback! Since the last Fairy Festival in 2019, anticipation had been building, and this year’s edition did not disappoint.
The annual Fairy Festival is a celebration of spring, fairy tales, and mythology brought to life through cosplay, games, storytelling, live action role play (LARP), and fairy-themed crafts. Unique to Cyprus, Cyherbia Botanical Park is the only venue on the island that organizes such a festival. Thanks to both digital exposure and word of mouth, the Fairy Festival has grown into a must-attend event for families, fantasy lovers, and tourists alike.
Fantasy Costumes and Cosplay Magic
Hundreds of people traveled from across Cyprus, many in extraordinary handmade fantasy costumes—elves, fairies, woodland creatures, and more. Dressing up is at the heart of the Fairy Festival, a passion shared by Cyherbia’s founder and herbalist Miranda, and her daughter Melina, the park’s Digital Marketing Director. Both lifelong fans of cosplay and frequent attendees of Comic Con and fantasy festivals in Europe, they bring inspiration from books, art, and music into their costumes. Their attic is brimming with outfits collected and crafted over the years, each waiting for its magical debut.
Every year, the Cyherbia team delights in asking, “What are you dressing as this year?” But what truly fills their hearts is seeing the visitors arrive in costume, embodying the same spirit of enchantment. Together, staff and guests enter a shared consciousness—a collective celebration of creativity, play, and fantasy. On this day, everyone unites under the same magical banner, creating a sense of belonging and joy that inspires the team to make the festival bigger and better each year.
A Day Full of Whimsy and Adventure
Fairy Festival 2023 drew hundreds of families and tourists who explored activities spread across every corner of the park. Visitors enjoyed:
- Archery, ring tilting, javelin & hula hoop challenges
- Maypole dancing & stiltwalking performances
- Facepainting and fairy-inspired crafts
- Soap & candle-making workshops
- Costume parade & competition
- The Steampunk Alchemy Show & Cotton Candy Show
Live Action Role Play: Epic Quests in the Woodland
One of the highlights was the immersive LARP experience organized by Battle for Honor. With safe but realistic weapons—swords, shields, and more—participants learned the art of battle, then joined in epic quests.
At different times of the day, the team led groups into the Woodland on a daring mission: to rescue the princess from the evil witch’s cottage. Along the way, heroes fought knights, collected magical gems, and bargained with the witch by solving riddles. When the gems were exchanged, the princess was freed, thanked her rescuers, and posed for keepsake photos with them. For many children, it was the adventure of a lifetime.
